What Ifs! If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Welcome to a new series here at Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights called What Ifs! One great discussion involved whentalking about superheroes is the big “what if” question. So I decided to take the question out to you readers and find out what your thoughts are. This week’s question is “If you could have any superpower, what would it be?” Would you go with super strength? Flight? Regeneration? The ability to shoot lasers out of your fingertips?

FTMN Poll: What superhero/comic book movie are you looking forward to in 2013?

I’ve looked back at this past year, now it’s time to look to the future. As of my cursory search through IMDB, these are the comic book and superhero movies I found that are coming out so far in 2013. Which one are you looking forward to the most. Myself, I’m looking forward to Man of Steel. I’m not the biggest Superman fan in general, but I’m very curious if they can finally pull it off, which they haven’t really done since the first one.

FTMN Poll: What’s your favorite type of “bad” movie?

Bad movies, some of them are hard to watch, but others transcend that barrier to become a real treat. I just got done watching several that I totally didn’t like and will shortly be moving on to a few that I predict I will enjoy a whole lot more, so I have to ask “What kind of ‘bad’ movies do you like the best?” Is it the ones that are cheesy and campy which make the bad jokes incredibly charming? Or is it the ones that try to take themselves seriously, but are either so over the top or just cheaply made that their piss poor efforts are hilariously bad? Vote, share some of your favorites, enjoy!

Name our new podcast

So we’ve got a new podcast coming out tomorrow, but we still haven’t decided on a name yet. I put up three of the most popular ones, so it’s up to you to vote on it, and you’ll be able to hear it tomorrow. So let’s hear those votes!

Update: Thanks for voting in the poll, but we ended up going with something different anyway. After much discussion, we named it “As you Watch Podcast”.

FTMN Poll: What’s your favorite type of Superhero?

So what’s your favorite type of Superhero? Do you enjoy the more sci-fi aspects of heroes like Superman, Green Lantern, and the Avengers? Or do you enjoy the more grounded in reality heroes like Batman? There’s also the attempts at more realism like in Unbreakable, Super, Chronicle, or the first half of Hancock. Or do you prefer fantasy heroes like Percy Jackson, or going farther back to Greek Mythology and Hercules or Jason and the Argonauts? Let me know.

I also wanted to take a moment to direct you to the site of the artist who originally created all of the minimalist posters I featured on Facebook this Monday thru Friday, you can find him at deviantArt, so be sure to check out some of his other stuff. He’s done a lot of minimalist posters for video games and some other movies I didn’t use.

FTMN Poll: Best poster of the week?

I haven’t decided for sure yet, but instead of the usual poll, I may use these Monday posts to highlight the minimalist posters I use in my daily Facebook game. If you haven’t visited our Facebook Page yet, be sure to check it often. I post a new minimalist poster almost every day with the title removed, and it’s your job to guess what movie the poster is for. There’s some great designs, good ones, tough ones, and some not-so-great ones. There’s only been a couple stumpers including one from this week, though there’s still not a ton of people playing. So which one’s your favorite from this week’s batch, and why?

Also, the current leaderboard:

David – 4
Jason – 3
Morgan – 2
Dust Raven – 2
Dusty – 2
Keith – 2
No One – 2
Dylan – 1
Silver Emulsion – 1
Rob – 1

FTMN Poll: What series should be rebooted?

The superhero/comic book/sci-fi landscape right now is filled with reboots, from Spider-Man, to Judge Dredd, to Robocop, to Total Recall, to Superman, to Green Arrow, and even Beauty and the Beast. Some may be good, some may be crap. And on top of that, some of the original’s are hard to live up to. I have no doubt that the new Dredd will be better than the original Judge Dredd, but Robocop is going to be a tougher sell for me. So far, I’ve liked everything I’ve seen from the reboots I’ve listed, although Beauty and the Beast feels like the weakest one for my tastes, they’re just moving too far away from the original Linda Hamilton/ Ron Perlman version and making it for the pretty faces of the CW audience.

But what I’m asking today is what series would you actually want to see a reboot of? I’ve listed several choices from the misguided take on Spawn, to ones that haven’t seen action outside of TV like Wonder Woman. Is there a comic actor today who could bring new life to the Mask or the Tick? The Ninja Turtles may have been squashed for now, but do they deserve a true to their origins style reboot? What about the Punisher, they’ve tried a few times and haven’t quite gotten him right yet? There’s also reboots of Fantastic Four, The Crow, and Daredevil in the works, though they’re all still pretty early in their productions and may still fall through, do any of them deserve a chance? Is there any others that I’ve failed to mention? Let your voice be heard, tell me what you think.

FTMN Poll: What should I watch next?

Click here for the poll on Facebook. The Polldaddy polls used by WordPress weren’t working the way I wanted them to, but on Facebook it’s very easy to add your own option so list whatever you want. It’s time once again to ask that age old question of what I should watch next. I’ve left this poll wide open, so just type in your choice, or pick a choice someone else has already put down. I have two other options because the system won’t let me create essentially a blank poll. Tomorrow’s movie will be Unbreakable, but it’s wide open after that. If you need some suggestions, check out the List – by Date for a big list of superhero movies. Or you can check below for DVDs that I own, but haven’t reviewed. Many of them I haven’t even watched yet because I bought them from the bargain bin for the specific purpose of watching them for this site. Note – I have both Nolan Batman movies, but I’m saving them for just before Dark Knight Rises.

Who Would Win in a Fight #2

Who Would Win in a Fight #2

Agent Coulson

vs.

Kato

It’s time for another round of Who Would Win in a Fight. This time there are no handicaps, just a pure hand to hand fight. In one corner there’s everyone’s favorite member of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson, which if you doubt his fighting abilities, be sure and check out the short film A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer. In the other corner is the Green Hornet’s sidekick Kato. Once again, there’s no simple poll voting, you’ve got to explain your choice in the comments.

I’ve also got updates for the other games I’ve been running lately. I’ve got another Invasion of the Lambs screenshot game over at the LAMB. And if you haven’t yet, be sure and check out this site’s Facebook page for daily updates on the articles as well as a daily minimalist poster game. Here’s the leader board:

Dylan – 2
Morgan – 1
Dust Raven – 2
Silver Emulsion – 1
