Superhero Podcast Review: Pulp 2 Pixel

It’s time for yet another superhero podcast review where I listen to a few episodes of a superhero related podcast, give you the stats breakdown, tell you a little bit about the podcast in general and give it a rating. The ratings are pretty simple: Subscribe, Unsubscribe, or Selected Episodes and while I try to be very general in the overall written review, the final rating does involve my personal preference more than a generally objective rating. And if you know of or run a superhero podcast that I haven’t covered and would like me to check out, leave a comment or send me an email at Bubbawheat@msn.com.

Release schedule: roughly twice a month
Episode Length: 1:30-2:30 averaging around 1:45

Production format: A rotating selection of podcasts with a main host that covers several different superhero related topics from superheroes in tabletop gaming, comic book retrospectives, and Masters of the Universe among others. The ones I listed to were a single conversation about the topic at hand.

The Format

The constant host is Doctor G, the Man of Nerdology and other hosts rotate depending on what the topic is. I listened to the three recommended episodes above and Doctor G had a good rapport with all three groups of co-hosts including Dial G which seemed to be more of a guest host than a regular co-host. Everyone knew all of their stuff and made it quite interesting despite the fact that I was much less than knowledgeable about the topics they were talking about though they did toss in some tangents to some less-than-mainstream superhero movies that was nice to hear.

Comics vs Movies

While there are several rotating shows, the majority of recent episodes are dominated by Marvel’s Secret Wars and Beyond as they go through the Secret Wars comics. As such, the podcast tends to be focused much more on  comics and in fact, none of the episodes stood out to me as being about movies. But as I mentioned above, there were a couple tangents here and there where movies were brought up.

The Verdict

This is another podcast where the verdict is largely predicated on my personal preference rather than the overall podcast quality. I very much enjoyed the three episodes that I listened to for different reasons. The Astro City episode is a great catch up and introduction to the entire universe of Astro City itself and I’m curious to catch it if it does end up becoming a TV series. The Dial G for Gamer was also very fascinating as I have a light history with D&D and have listened to a podcast that was essentially a gaming session. Unfortunately, there wasn’t quite enough for me to personally grasp onto to become a regular listener. If you have any sort of history with Secret Wars or are even just curious about the series, I would definitely recommend it, but as for me

Pulp 2 Pixels: Unsubscribed
