FTMN Poll: What’s your favorite type of “bad” movie?

Bad movies, some of them are hard to watch, but others transcend that barrier to become a real treat. I just got done watching several that I totally didn’t like and will shortly be moving on to a few that I predict I will enjoy a whole lot more, so I have to ask “What kind of ‘bad’ movies do you like the best?” Is it the ones that are cheesy and campy which make the bad jokes incredibly charming? Or is it the ones that try to take themselves seriously, but are either so over the top or just cheaply made that their piss poor efforts are hilariously bad? Vote, share some of your favorites, enjoy!

  1. Camp. Which, since it’s deliberate, isn’t necessarily “bad”, in my opinion.

    • There are many who would disagree with you. I don’t think it’s a stretch to call a good chunk of Batman and Robin “camp”. I also realize I’m not entirely sure the difference between “cheesy” “corny” and “campy”.

      • Cheesy is trying to be serious and failing, but in an entertaining way. Corny is trying to be funny and failing, or trying to be serious and failing in a groan-worthy way. Campy is deliberately trying for mock seriousness. Campy can be bad, but it isn’t necessarily so — just like any other style of comedy.

Batman and Robin tried for camp for at least some of it, but wound up being corny.

      • Wasn’t expecting a lesson on it. You sound very familiar with the concept. Good thing, or bad thing? 🙂

  2. I just took the poll and seems there’s an even split. Some of my favorite camp movies include Rocky Horror Picture Show and Flash Gordon. I like to believe that they are so bad that they’re good, but there might be something more to them.

I’ve been a Facebook lurker for the past few weeks. Love your minimalist posters.

    • I really enjoyed both of those movies, RHPS is one of my favorites that I’ve seen countless times, and Flash Gordon is a recent find just in time for me to get all of the references while watching Ted too, which was a bonus.

And thanks for watching my Facebook stuff, just FYI since I haven’t been on it very well, most of the posters are found, I specifically claim any that are made by myself.

  3. For me it’s a combination of all of those things. But … I never set out to like a bad film. To me, they’re not bad. They’re still enjoyable. Just a little silly. Congo’s one of those that I know is stupid on so many levels, but there’s still so much to enjoy in it!

    • I always try to go into most movies with a positive attitude that it will be a good movie. It doesn’t always work, like when I knew that Son of the Mask or Superhero Movie would be train wrecks before hitting play. But even if it’s “bad” I find something in it that I enjoy, even if it is making fun of how bad it is, or seeing my wife’s reaction to how bad it is.

  4. I think I’d go with the cheesy but hilarious, I mean humor always makes it bearable, ahah.
