TV Nights: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #2.2

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S2 Week 2

Episode: Heavy is the Head
Original Airdate: 9-30-2014

Once again, I’m a bit late with this week’s recap of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Depending on how much I have to say about Gotham next week, I will likely start combining my thoughts on the superhero TV shows of the week into a separate post, though the Flash and Constantine pilots will still get their own posts. Anyway, S.H.I.E.L.D. continues strong into its second season as things continue to have been shaken up since the events from the end of the first season. The team still has a lot of rebuilding to do, and it has to reassess their threats from various sources including Hydra, the government, and yet another group who we get to see a little bit more of in this episode.

I won’t go into much detail with the plot of the episode, but we get to see the return of Rayna, the woman in the flower dress from last season. She’s not working for Hydra like everyone else seems to be, and there’s obviously something interesting about her, as the 084 that turned everyone else to stone allowed her to touch it and remain unharmed. We also get to see our first glimpse of Kyle MacLachlan who is quite possibly the big bad of this season, as well as potentially Skye’s father. He doesn’t seem to be an otherworldly creature at this point like they hinted at last season, but he does have some connection to the alien technology present in the 084 from this episode, so time will tell on that front.

There was also the wrap-up of the Brigadeer General Talbott plotline that was a fun ride while it lasted. We got a bit of a sneak peek at a potential double agent as one of Lucy Lawless’s mercenaries got captured and made a deal to run in Coulson. But instead, he is now a part of the team (or at least S.H.I.E.L.D. in general) and Coulson got his chance for a show of force towards Talbott at the end of the episode which appeared to end in a somewhat uneasy truce. Talbott obviously doesn’t see eye to eye with them, but there’s a good chance that he will stay out of the show for the time being. All in all, still a great episode and a great start to season 2. Until next time, this has been Bubbawheat for Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights.
