Goodbye City of Heroes
One of the things it says right in my profile is “City of Heroes player”, and even though I haven’t played much at all since starting this site, I still keep an eye on what’s going on over at the City of Heroes forums, and I still have quite a few CoH players following me on Twitter. One of the reasons why I originally bought the game about five years ago was because I wanted to get a game that my wife and I could enjoy together. At the time, she was addicted to Sims, and spent most of her time in the create-a-sim rather than actually playing the game. I knew that City of Heroes boasted the most elaborate character creator of pretty much any game out there next to Sims, and it was superhero related, which I knew I would enjoy. It didn’t take too long for her to get bored with the character creator, but I ended up getting hooked on the actual game. I had specifically avoided MMOs up until that point because I had a feeling that I would end up spending too much time playing it, becoming one of those WoW addicts spending all their free time playing the game. It did end up happening for a while there, but I’m not here to talk about that.
Superhero Shorts: City of Heroes: Infinite Dark
Superhero Shorts: Infinite Dark
Welcome to this week’s edition of Superhero Shorts where I take a look at a different superhero themed short film and get the creator of the film to answer a few interview questions. This week I’m glad to feature another machinima short from the MMO City of Heroes called Infinite Dark which was the winner of a City of Heroes held contest where among other things, he won a car! Here’s a link to the contest writeup where you can see the other entries and you can of course watch Infinite Dark right below. For his other projects you can also visit his own website at ToddWorld.com.

Superhero Shorts: City of Heroes – Incarnate
Right down in my bio it says that I’m a City of Heroes player, the first superhero MMO, and the best one in my opinion. I’m currently taking a break from it partly because I needed a breather from it, and partly because this blog takes up a lot of free time that CoH used to occupy. One of the best things going for CoH that even those who don’t like the game can’t argue is the game’s community. They are a creative and friendly bunch. There are several players who make machinima videos for the game and one of the best and definitely the most popular is Samuraiko. I had many videos to choose from, but I decided to focus on the one that had the most narrative to it, was tied to the game, and is a pretty good watch by itself. It explores the moment when the lead Hero of the game, Statesman, and the lead villain of the game, Lord Recluse, gain their powers for the first time and become Incarnates.
