As You Watch #2: Dick Tracy

Welcome back to the second episode of the As You Watch Podcast, featuring myself, Joe from Two Dude Review, Nick from Cinematic Katzenjammer, and Vern from Vern’s Video Vangaurd. In our second episode we talk about our movie of the episode: Dick Tracy. But we also cover today’s new releases on DVD and Blu-Ray, including The Lucky One and Battleship, and this weekend’s new theatrical releases, including Lawless. We also cover our own personal top three gangster movies, avoiding some of the biggest titles in that category. Since Dick Tracy was my pick of the week, I’m hosting the podcast, so leave any feedback and suggestions right here and everybody will be able to see them. In two weeks, we’ll be watching I Saw the Devil, so if you want to watch too, be sure to check it out. If you write a review of the movie, we will gladly add a link to it in our podcast post. And special thanks to the band Jelly Project who allowed us the use of their song “Crazy World” to open our show.

  1. Gentlemen, and I use that term loosely…

Another highly enjoyable episode. You made me want to watch Dick Tracy again, and I didnt think that was possible. 😀 Joe, your Gangster movie picks were perfect. 3 for 3, although you all had picks I enjoyed.

You’re gonna get better as you grow. Trust me, I’m reviewing my shows early episodes now, and they make me want to puke. 😀

I like the fact that all four of you have very distinct voices, it’s easy to know who’s who. I like the fact that you guys are already latching on to a format and roles. That’s going to be a key. Perhaps some transition sounds or music cues as you seque? I’ve noticed you already drop clips occasionally, that’s great. Not sure which of you is doing that work right now, but you’ll get better at it as you go. Try to ensure the volume level between clip and show stay consistent. Pick good cut points and use fade in and out to smooth the cuts on the edges, as long as you can fade and not mess with the clip. A little bit of production values go a long way!

Seriously, it was a good show. Left you guys your first review on iTunes (not as legendary as Joe’s (title pending) review, but few are 😀 ) You will want them.

You guys should drop a “Where to find you” segment at the end of the show. Have the chance to namedrop everyone’s blogs. I saw you guys set up a twitter account, you’ll probably want a facebook page too. All the required bullshit to support the netwroking, you know? *sigh*

    • Thanks for the feedback! I’m the one doing the bulk of the editing so far, though others are game for learning. Nick did the bulk of the rough cutting on this episode, and I did more of the fine cutting & clip searching/adding. As much as I don’t like listening to myself much, I will try to get into the habit of listening to it start-to-finish on headphones to help hear any glaring oddities before the final cut, which I think should help with volume changes, etc.

We’re working with bands (well, Vern is), so we hope that can lead to some custom music cues in the near future. We do name drop our individual blogs and the beginning of the show, though I suppose we should start mentioning our Twitter too.
