What ifs! You could make a sequel to any movie?

What if you had the power to greenlight and fun any sequel to any movie in the world, what would it be? Of course, since this site focuses on superhero related movie I’d love to also hear the answer to which Superhero movie you’d like to see a sequel of. There seems to be a lot of talk lately about the possibility of a Dredd sequel. Even though it received quite a bit of acclaim from fans, it got mixed reviews from critics and only had a less than stellar box office performance. Now there’s a few different possibilities on why a movie might need a sequel. If it’s based on other ongoing work, like most superhero movies are based on comics, then since the comic has continued on then there is still plenty more material to draw from. Even if it’s a stand alone movie, if it’s a good one, then people often wonder what would happen if those characters were revisited. Even in the case of a less than perfect movie, if there’s some element that worked in the original that could be expanded upon at the same time as the weaknesses could be removed. And such is the case for my personal choice for a movie that I would love to see a sequel to. I’ve always had a soft spot for the 2004 Punisher movie with Thomas Jane. Even though I’ve rewatched it last year and it didn’t quite hold up for me in the long run, it was mainly the silliness with the neighbors and the forced love interest that threw me off. I still enjoyed John Travolta as the over the top Howard Saint, and Thomas Jane was a fantastic Punisher, even moreso when he made his own short last year. So let’s hear it, what sequels would you love to see get made?

  1. Count me in as another DREDD 2 supporter. And yes, I’ve a soft spot for Thomas Jane’s Frank Castle (even more after catching that short you promoted), though I take some glee from PUNISHER WAR ZONE’s more brutish view. Of course, that doomed it with audiences and critics. Hmm…if staying in the vein of the comic/super hero realm, I’d say I would have loved to have greenlit a CONSTANTINE sequel. I also have a soft spot for the lighter SKY HIGH, too.

    • I’ve really got to see what all this Dredd business is all about sometime soon, though I did catch an amazing fan film in the universe recently so I think it’ll be much sooner rather than later when I check it out. Sky High’s another great choice, there haven’t been many great superhero comedy/parodies and that was one of the better ones.

  2. X-Men Origins: That Kid Who Changes the TV Channels with His Eyes in X2

  3. DREDD 2!!!!! Man, I hope it happens…

  4. Oh man, that Dredd 2 poster got me soooooo excited.

You know, for all the Pixar sequels that are being made, I’m surprised they haven’t done The Incredibles 2. What with the open ended ending and the current superhero movie dominance, it would be a slam dunk, right?

Also, not a movie, but as dumb as The Cape was, I actually ended up liking the show a lot. Mainly because I thought the cast was fun, especially Kieth David. So hook me up for a sequel to The Cape. 🙂

    • Incredibles 2 is a great choice, it could have easily been the one I went with and I do hope it comes to pass. It just needs Brad Bird to have some availability, currently he’s working on Tomorrowland I believe.

  5. Dude, Dredd will melt your face off. In oh, such a good way.

I’ve been wanting a Hancock sequel since it hit theaters. I thought there were rumblings of another one coming a while ago, but I haven’t followed the news. Hancock is really underrated as far as I’m concerned.

    • Oh man, I think I missed a lot of the Hancock sequel talk, probably because it was before I got heavy into the film community. I would love to see that as well… on second thought, I’m not sure what they could do in a sequel that would keep what I liked about the movie, which was the first half when he was a jerk. I’m less interested in seeing the fully together Hancock. But not a bad thought for sure.

      • I was thinking along the lines of exploring what he is, exactly. I liked how much of an asshole he was, too, but it got even better when he tried to correct himself. One of my favorite scenes is when they’re all sitting around at a restaurant and he tells the story of how he woke up in the hospital and nobody came to see him. Great, great stuff.

    • Yeah, that is a great scene. Just so long as they keep Charleze Theron out of it this time around.

      • What didn’t you like about her?

      • mostly the plotline surrounding her. The idea was kind of interesting with immortals that can end their immortality when they pair off, but I really hated her super powered bitchfest when the reveal happened, and overall thought the concept wasn’t handled very well. So maybe not Theron specifically, just Theron and the way she was handled in the movie.

      • Ah, ok. Yea, I can see that. You’d think she’d be way more discreet about it. Once the gig was up, she didn’t seem too phased by the fact that her entire life for the past 80 years or whatever just went to shit.

  6. Mac and Me! I’d love them to finally get that promised sequel going! I’m probably the only one who would watch it, though.

As for superhero films, it’s a bit harder as most of them already have sequels. I’m gonna go with Green Lantern. I thought it was a fun one, and I think there’s potential there for more.

    • Another good choice, I thought the first movie was a good setup along with some major issues. But if they kept the same cast and focused on Sinestro as the main villain, it could still turn out to be a good movie. As for Mac and Me, it rings a bell and I am familiar with what the alien looks like, but I don’t remember anything about it beyond that.

  7. Hard to pick just one. Off the top of my head, a few that I would like to see get a sequel are: Zombieland, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Super Troopers, Serenity, V for Vendetta, Constantine. Or on the threequel front: Boondock Saints 3 please!

As for superhero movies: I guess I’d have to go with The Incredibles. Not many to pick from here given that the superhero films are constantly being rebooted or given a sequel anyways. Or…I’d love for Guillermo and Perlman to finally do Hellboy 3.

    • So many great choices, While it doesn’t have to be Roger Rabbit, I’d love to see a toon world/human world story done right, not like the many schlock-fests like Smurfs, Chipmunks, Rocky & Bullwinkle, and many more. And very much agreed on the Hellboy 3.

I’d make a sequel to 127 Hours; I wanna see that guy lose a leg this time! XD

  9. Will it be in IMAX 3D?
