Lousy SMarch Weather

I spent a lot of today trying to come up with another good topic. I felt like I had a pretty good streak going for these blog posts discussing black superheroes, women superheroes, and what makes a superhero in general. But I didn’t end up coming up with something that I was excited about and kinda ended up being defeated more than once this month. First by not watching Ghost Rider in a timely manner and instead watching the Blade TV pilot, and second by not coming up with a good blog topic and instead just writing a general update. But fear not, I have managed to fit Ghost Rider into my schedule and it will be Thursday’s review. I’m sure all both of you out there were sweating it. Also, I’m nearly one quarter into my original goal of 100 movies reviewed this year. Tuesday’s review was number 24.
Actually, I just remembered what topic I was going to do for this blog, and I will get to it soon. But first I’ll mention my plans for the immediate future. I don’t have any specific theme for March since the women superhero theme fell through, but I do think I will try to fit those four movies in there anyway. It helps that I found Elektra on clearance for two bucks at a used DVD store. I know it’s not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but I remember liking it and I’m sure it’s worth at least two bucks for me. I also plan to watch more kid friendly movies so I can include Jena a lot more. It feels like it’s been a long run of R rated movies and others that she just wasn’t interested in. So I’ll be watching Megamind, Bolt, and probably the Adam West Batman movie. Batman is her favorite, and I’m very curious what she’ll think of that version of Batman. If you have any other tips or suggestions for what I can watch in March, let me know. I’ll likely be back to just doing reviews on Sundays and Thursdays again. If I watch something that doesn’t exactly fit into my list, I might toss that in on Tuesday, like I did for Crisis on Two Earths, and the Blade TV movie. Keep an eye out for Tales from the Crypt. Got the 5th and 6th seasons recently and have been wanting to watch them. They’re based on comic books, so they fit my extended definition, I just have to figure out how I want to review TV shows.
Enough with the updates, what I wanted to talk about today is how I decided to set up this blog. I started this out as a year long challenge. Right at the top of the page it says “reviewing over 100 movies in 2012”. And yet it seems like I’m not keeping count. And that would be right. I’m not keeping count. I prefer not to number my posts because while this challenge starts in 2012, it’s hopefully not the end of the challenge. I plan to continue this blog through 2012 and beyond, each movie isn’t a number to me, it’s a movie. Now I’m not trying to put down other blogs that use a numbering system, I follow and enjoy a lot of them, like 5-Word Movie Reviews and Dancing With Jellyfish to mention a couple of my favorites, both of which plan on reviewing 366 movies this year, three times as many as what I’m doing. It’s just numbering movies isn’t for me.
The other thing I don’t do is rate a movie with a specific number or grading system. I feel like movies don’t need to be ranked and graded. There’s things you like about them and things you don’t like about them, it’s all subjective and arbitrary. Watching it with a certain mindset beforehand affects how the movie is enjoyed. I prefer to merely point out what I liked, what I didn’t, and how I felt about it at the end of it all. If you see things you like, then you should watch the movie, regardless if I said the movie was a 5 or a D+ or 2 thumbs from a movie watching monkey. If you’ve been reading my reviews, you might start to figure out what my taste in movies is, and if it fits close to your own tastes, then you’re more likely to take what I say to heart. If not, then I hope you at least enjoy reading what I have to say regardless. I do my best to make things interesting when I can and toss up some interesting pictures with hopefully funny captions when I can. As always, feel free to toss me suggestions, feedback, and comments. And if you like what I do, don’t forget to share: tweet me, link me, like me, bring a friend. Until next time, this has been Bubbawheat for Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights.

Hey, thanks for the plug dude!
I totally agree with you on scoring movies. It’s such an arbitrary thing as to be mostly meaningless. I also don’t do it because it means people have to read the whole thing to see what I thought about a flick!
Hey! Thanks for the plug!
Yeah I agree with the scoring system. I don’t do it, I just let them know what I thought and recommend it to them if they want to watch it. But scoring is pretty pointless.
Thanks again, look forward to reading more of your stuff!
