Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars

Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars 2019

I saw this movie a couple weeks ago at Wal-Mart. It had all the makings of a bad superhero parody movie. The cover had a bunch of the characters including a low rent Joker and wrestler Shawn Michaels painted green with some bad ears to make an ugly looking Yoda knock-off. And just a few days ago I was graced with a $3 credit for Vudu. It just so happened that this movie is available to rent on Vudu for a mere $3.99 so I decided to take to Twitter and ask my followers if I should spend the dollar to rent and review this movie. But I also attracted the attention of one of the screenwriters who offered a joke answer and when I checked out his Twitter profile, I noticed that he had a great sense of humor about this obviously bad parody film and despite his warnings, I decided to rent and watch it. Was it pretty much exactly what I expected? Yes. Did I have at least some fun with it? Yes, but only just.

Super Capers

Super Capers 2009

Another month has come and gone and after going through last month watching fewer horror movies than I had hoped, I’m moving on to yet another themed month. For the month of April, I decided that I want to get some of the bad movies out of the way, specifically many of the awful looking superhero movies geared towards kids, some that I grew up with and others that I’ve never seen and never really wanted to see. To kick things off, I decided to watch this parody kids movie from 2009 called Super Capers and starring the perennial teen star who would go on to do nothing of note and this was actually one of the last few movies that he worked on before disappearing off the Hollywood planet. The film itself is actually more like a superhero parody film along the lines of Superhero Movie. It has a handful of good jokes, but it’s underscored by way too many cartoonish sound effects that hamper the humor rather than enhance it. And while it has an interesting cast, the actual characters are generally one dimensional punchlines and those punchlines aren’t all that great. It was a bit better than I was expecting it to be, but it’s still a far cry from a good movie.

5 Films That Should Be Superhero Movies

There’s a couple movie releases that have been making the rounds on the festival circuit and have been slowly rolled out into wider releases that sound like they should be full-fledged superhero movies. So, I thought I would take a look back at a few more movies that should be superhero movies solely based on their titles. I don’t do a lot of parody posts here, but I do like playing around with photoshop so I thought I’d share with you what I think these movies should really be. Enjoy!

Superhero Shorts: Batfan

Superhero Shorts: Batfan

Welcome to this week’s edition of Superhero Shorts where I take a look at a different superhero themed short film and get the creator of the film to answer a few interview questions. This week I’m talking with Anders Wotzke about his Batman parody, Batfan. Where he takes a simple concept and goes all the way with it, coming up with something pretty funny. As always, you can watch it right below, or you can check it out on his YouTube channel along with his many video reviews, you can also visit his movie site MovieDex.

Superhero Movie

Superhero Movie 2008

I was hoping that this would be the last bad movie I watched for a little while, but then Morgan from Morgan on Media pointed out this bizarre 80’s Australian superhero parody musical called the Return of Captain Invincible starring Alan Arkin and Christopher Lee, and after I looked up the trailer, it’s making me want to get back to some more classic cheesy superhero movies. At least after I watch Dick Tracy for our upcoming podcast, As You Watch. Which I should also mention that if you want to join in, I will gladly link any reviews to Dick Tracy so you can watch along with us, your deadline to get links in to me is Monday, August 27th. But back to today’s movie. I remember it being promoted as essentially a parody of all the superhero movies that were out at the time, though it primarily focused on the original Spider-Man movie, which was pretty dated even at the time considering that Spider-Man 3 came out before Superhero Movie. All of the other Superhero movie references are all just brief one-scene cameos, though the movie does stick with only parodying Marvel properties. I wasn’t much of a fan of the style of humor either, which basically consisted of playing a scene as close to Spider-Man as possible, then throwing in a sex/fart joke at the end.

Superhero Shorts: Wolverine’s Claws Suck

I was very happy with the first article in this Superhero Shorts series and I will definitely be continuing this series every Saturday. I’ve also gotten some good responses from filmmakers talking about their short films. This week I take a look at another comedy video by the YouTube filmmakers Greg and Lou. Wolverine’s Claws Suck is their only superhero themed comedy video made in 2009 with over 2 million views on YouTube. Lou from Greg and Lou graciously answered a few of my questions about their video, but first let’s take a look at it.
