My top 10 Superhero movies
Posted by Bubbawheat
Now I know that many movie blogs end the year with a big top 10 list, and I’m no different. I also ask everyone who I have on this site the same question: “What’s your favorite superhero movie?” and from the beginning, I’ve dodged answering that question myself. My go to answer is “the next one”. But now that I’ve watched 100 superhero movies, and this site has technically passed its one year registration date even though I didn’t have my first real post for a couple weeks, I figured it’s time to narrow them down and give you a list of my top 10 favorite superhero movies. I know that movies are a highly subjective art form, no matter what movie it is there’s someone out there who likes it, so I’m not claiming that these are the all time best superhero movies, but they are my own personal favorites. I have also cheated a little bit and added some “runner up”s that have some connection with each entry, but shouldn’t be looked at as a possible replacement for that spot in the top ten, but more like a movie contending for spot #11. So without further ado, let’s get to the list.
New look, & Top 5 Most Original Superhero Movies

As you can probably tell, at least if you’ve ever been here before, I’ve gone and given this place a little bit of a makeover. I recently took part in a Brutally Blog Blustering over at the LAMB where you submit your blog, and people give constructive criticism anonymously. One thing that many people mentioned was the disjointed URL, so while it is a bit long, I couldn’t think of anything else more appropriate than FlightsTightsAndMovieNights.com. I will continue to renew Bubbawheat.com because I’ve had that name for more than half of my life at this point, and I doubt I’ll be changing it any time soon. I also went and made a more comics appropriate background that is hopefully not too distracting and looks good on most screen dimensions. I even adjusted my header image a bit to give it a more consistent and comics related font, as well as adding a few randomly changing taglines. If you’re wondering, there’s four. Which one do you like the best? I will be making a couple more tweaks to how my sidebars and pages are set up over the next week or so, but nothing too major. While several people complained about my lack of a blogroll, oftentimes even while praising my Follow Friday, I will be making a page collecting all of my Follow Fridays into a blogroll page of sorts. But enough about that, this week’s topic is a list of the five most original superhero movies. There’s tons of superhero movies out there, but so many of them are basically different takes on the same formula, or one of a select few formulas. But every once in a while, a movie comes out and does something completely different. It may not always work 100%, but I respect their efforts for trying.
What’s your favorite Superhero Movie?

This weekly blog has become the toughest part about writing for this site, but since it’s halfway through the first year I thought it’s a good time to start tackling the toughest question that I ask everyone that I talk to for this site, “What’s your favorite Superhero movie?” I’ve done 23 different interviews, gotten 25 different people to answer this question, and gotten 25 different movies for an answer. Of course, that includes 2 people that didn’t pick a single movie, and almost half of them couldn’t pick just one movie. One person even went so far as to make a top 10 list. I counted every movie that was listed as a favorite, but I didn’t count any movies that were listed, but then discounted in favor of a different favorite movie. So what movies did everyone pick? Read on to find out.
My top 5 X-Men
Posted by Bubbawheat
I’m getting ready to watch X-Men: First Class for the first time, went out and rented it on bluray today. I was never big into the X-Men comic books, but right at the same time as I started watching Batman: The Animated series, there was the X-Men animated series. I watched both of them every time they came on. They were very different from each other, but they both treated subject matter in a very adult manner. It made complicated issues understandable without being too childish. It’s where I learned about all of these mutants before I ever thought of someone playing a mutant on the big screen. But I haven’t actually gone back and re-watched any of the cartoons so the live action movies are much clearer in my memory. While many of the characters are very different from each other, there are a lot of great characters to choose from. I’ve said before that I’m not very keen on making lists, but I thought this was a list I could handle.
33 of the Worst Superhero Movies Ever Made

Now I’m not usually one to make lists for the sake of making lists. I like reading them, I find nothing wrong with them, but I just don’t want this to become something that I do a lot. So I didn’t… kinda. How this list came about is from a forum draft on a forum I’m on called Unleashed, which is a forum of mostly current and previous City of Heroes players. When I say forum draft, I’m sure there’s many people reading this that have no idea what I’m talking about. Well a forum draft is just a type of forum game, just a way to pass the time and see what other people on the forums think about different topics. Basically someone on the forum picks a topic, several people join in the draft and make their choices based around that topic. Then everyone on the forum votes for the best choice in championship style matches. So I started a draft for the worst superhero movie of all time, which is where I got this list. 11 people joined in the draft and each person chose three movies that they thought were the worst superhero movie ever, and I present them to you here in no particular order.

What makes a good villain?

I’ll start this off as I tend to start off all of these blog posts, with an update. I had planned to watch Zoom and Sky High with my daughter Jena, but then we took a trip to the video store and I saw the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle trilogy staring at me. I left it up to her to decide between Sky High and TMNT, and she picked TMNT. So the next three reviews will be the original live action Turtles movies. I will leave the animated reboot for another time for now. Another thing that surprised me a little bit is that when I checked some of my site stats, I saw that these editorial style blogs tend to be more popular than most of my movie reviews. Huh. I’m also considering adding another post per week focusing on just a trailer for a movie, either upcoming or classic. Let me know if you’d be interested in reading that by commenting below. Enough of the update, let’s get to the question in the title, shall we?
