100 Essential Superhero Movies – You Decide! The Punisher

Part of finishing off this list of 100 essential superhero movies is bringing in my audience, and so when I got down to the last 20 movies, I decided that I would let you decide. And what better than to reach out to other movie critics and reviewers to let them argue the case for a superhero movie that they are a fan of and at the bottom of the post, there is a poll where you can vote whether or not you agree if it should be included in the 100 Essential Superhero Movies list. But I didnโ€™t want them to have all the fun so today I will be defending the case for The Punisher. Not the more recent one starring Thomas Jane, but the first one back in 1989 starring Dolph Lundgren.

100 Essential Superhero Movies – You Decide! Condorman

Part of finishing off this list of 100 essential superhero movies is bringing in my audience, and so when I got down to the last 20 movies, I decided that I would let you decide. And what better than to reach out to other movie critics and reviewers and even just movie fans to let them argue the case for a superhero movie that they are a fan of and at the bottom of the post, there is a poll where you can vote whether or not you agree if it should be included in the 100 Essential Superhero Movies list. Today my guest is Aaron Maracle who is on Twitter at @IT_Spook who was a fan of City of Heroes alongside myself and a fan of superhero movies as well as this Disney spy/superhero movie from back in the 80s, Condorman.

What Do You Want To See Me Watch in 2014?

With the new year right around the corner, I’m not sure what movies I should move onto to start the year off. And it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these polls so I thought I would throw it out to you readers to guide some of my movie watching, though I am going to shortly watch Timecop for the Lamb’s Movie of the Month since it is, in fact, based on a comic. I broke it down into a few categories, from the black and white classics like the old Dick Tracy movies and original Lone Ranger, to finishing up some of the schlocky 80’s movies like John Ritter’s Hero at Large, Super Fuzz, and the Swamp Thing movies. I’ve also got a few foreign movies I could go to like the Gantz sequel, or the Zebraman movies. The first Gantz was very good and I had a blast with Hentai Kamen, so it’s always fun to check out more asian movies. There’s also plenty of non-superhero movies that are based on comic books like A History of Violence, or Josie and the Pussycats, or American Splendor, three very different movies based on very different comics which are always good for a bit of a change of pace around here. Even if a choice doesn’t win, I’ll likely take it into consideration and watch movies from that category sooner rather than later. And if you have any specific examples you’d like me to watch, or a category I haven’t listed, feel free to leave a comment and let me know. Until next time, this has been Bubbawheat for Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights.

What Ifs! If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Welcome to a new series here at Flights, Tights, and Movie Nights called What Ifs! One great discussion involved whentalking about superheroes is the big “what if” question. So I decided to take the question out to you readers and find out what your thoughts are. This week’s question is “If you could have any superpower, what would it be?” Would you go with super strength? Flight? Regeneration? The ability to shoot lasers out of your fingertips?

FTMN Poll: What superhero/comic book movie are you looking forward to in 2013?

I’ve looked back at this past year, now it’s time to look to the future. As of my cursory search through IMDB, these are the comic book and superhero movies I found that are coming out so far in 2013. Which one are you looking forward to the most. Myself, I’m looking forward to Man of Steel. I’m not the biggest Superman fan in general, but I’m very curious if they can finally pull it off, which they haven’t really done since the first one.

FTMN Poll: What’s your favorite type of “bad” movie?

Bad movies, some of them are hard to watch, but others transcend that barrier to become a real treat. I just got done watching several that I totally didn’t like and will shortly be moving on to a few that I predict I will enjoy a whole lot more, so I have to ask “What kind of ‘bad’ movies do you like the best?” Is it the ones that are cheesy and campy which make the bad jokes incredibly charming? Or is it the ones that try to take themselves seriously, but are either so over the top or just cheaply made that their piss poor efforts are hilariously bad? Vote, share some of your favorites, enjoy!

Name our new podcast

So we’ve got a new podcast coming out tomorrow, but we still haven’t decided on a name yet. I put up three of the most popular ones, so it’s up to you to vote on it, and you’ll be able to hear it tomorrow. So let’s hear those votes!

Update: Thanks for voting in the poll, but we ended up going with something different anyway. After much discussion, we named it “As you Watch Podcast”.

FTMN Poll: What’s your favorite type of Superhero?

So what’s your favorite type of Superhero? Do you enjoy the more sci-fi aspects of heroes like Superman, Green Lantern, and the Avengers? Or do you enjoy the more grounded in reality heroes like Batman? There’s also the attempts at more realism like in Unbreakable, Super, Chronicle, or the first half of Hancock. Or do you prefer fantasy heroes like Percy Jackson, or going farther back to Greek Mythology and Hercules or Jason and the Argonauts? Let me know.

I also wanted to take a moment to direct you to the site of the artist who originally created all of the minimalist posters I featured on Facebook this Monday thru Friday, you can find him at deviantArt, so be sure to check out some of his other stuff. He’s done a lot of minimalist posters for video games and some other movies I didn’t use.

FTMN Poll: Best poster of the week?

I haven’t decided for sure yet, but instead of the usual poll, I may use these Monday posts to highlight the minimalist posters I use in my daily Facebook game. If you haven’t visited our Facebook Page yet, be sure to check it often. I post a new minimalist poster almost every day with the title removed, and it’s your job to guess what movie the poster is for. There’s some great designs, good ones, tough ones, and some not-so-great ones. There’s only been a couple stumpers including one from this week, though there’s still not a ton of people playing. So which one’s your favorite from this week’s batch, and why?

Also, the current leaderboard:

David – 4
